Custom Trumpet Mutes

Of course all of our mutes are suitable to play in any band or orchestra depending on the effect required by the musical director. If you have a specific sound you’re trying to get, we can work with you to design a mute to make it sound perfect to your needs.

There are many things which affect the way a mute sounds, from it’s internal volume, the thickness and density of the mute walls, the thickness and length of balance tubes, the placement of the mute within the bell and the resonator. Add to that the instrument, the mouthpiece and the most important part, the musician. There are innumerable variables and it’s here where 3D printing comes into its own. Designs can be modified and prototyped very quickly so that new ideas can be tested. To do this with other mediums is very expensive which is evidenced by the fact that many mutes have been made the same way, with the same materials, for a hundred or more years.
